When our kids get into something, they really get into something. Thank goodness they have good taste, because our lives become consumed by the things they get into. First it was Cars, then Star Wars, and now Jurassic World.

Before I go any further, let me tell you something about myself. I love dinosaurs. In first grade we had a dinosaur program and sang songs all about dinosaurs. We made shirts and sang about T-rexes, brontosauruses, pterodactyls, and stegosauruses (which happen to be my favorite dinosaur). I even took a dinosaur class in college (it was super hard) and any time we go to a museum, I love looking at the dinosaur bones. Most importantly of all, my favorite movie of all time is Jurassic World.

So you can imagine my excitement when my daughter (who just turned four) decided she wanted to be Blue (the raptor from Jurassic World) from Halloween, and my oldest son (who is five) was on board to also be a raptor. Hence, JURASSIC WORLD FAMILY HALLOWEEN COSTUMES!

Guys, these were super easy, so fun, and I seriously cannot wait to show them off. We’ve been planning it for months, and honestly the hardest part about the costumes was snagging the raptor costumes from the store. The preorders were sold out for a long time and I had to go to two different stores to get them. So if you’re planning on doing this as your family costume this year, I highly recommend going and grabbing the raptor costumes from Target or Walmart or wherever right now. Seriously, there’s going to be a lot of little raptors running around this year.

Okay, so let’s get down to the details!

My husband is Owen, I’m Claire, and the kids are the raptor pack (obviously). I got everything for my costume and my husband’s costumes from Amazon (except his pants and our shoes), and the kids’ costumes are from Target (they’re also on Amazon here). I had to sew Little A and Little R’s costumes because the smalls were too big (especially on Little R!), but it was easy to just fold them and sew them to make them shorter. They also have the cutest tails! I filled them with batting and they turned out awesome.

For my husband’s costume, he got this shirt and this vest, plus he used some dark greyish/blue jeans from Costco and his boots are his dad’s old boots. I did a lot of searching for the perfect vest, and I really like the one that we got. It’s PERFECT you guys. I made him grow his beard out for these pictures, and of course he’s going to be growing it out for Halloween, too. My daughter especially loves “playing Jurassic World” with him in his costume and pretending he’s Owen training her as Blue. My husband keeps joking that he needs a motorcycle to finish off his costume, but that’s not going to happen.

For my costume, I got this blouse, this tank top, this skirt, and this wig. I know my tank looks pink, but it’s actually purple in person. Darn lighting. My shoes are from Target, and even though they aren’t the exact ones she wears in the movie, they are the same color and that worked for me! Full disclosure, I had to rip the seams open down the front of the blouse to tie it like she does in the movie, but it was worth it. But if you want to wear your shirt again as an actual blouse, maybe find one with buttons!

This year for Little A’s birthday, she asked for a “Blue mask” and “Blue claws.” Like seriously, that’s all she asked for, and she didn’t change her mind for about three months. We got them at Target, but they also have them on Amazon here and here. They’re perfect for your little raptors if you want to go above and beyond (you can see them on her with the costume on my Instagram here). The mask is also super cool, too! Of course she didn’t want to wear them for the pictures, but if you want to get them, there they are!

So that’s it! I can hardly wait to wear these together. At church we also do a “trunk or treat” where kids go around to people’s trunks and trick or treat in the parking lot, and I am already planning to do the gates of Jurassic World in the back of our car, complete with some giant leaves and maybe a volcano (we’ll see!). I’m having a lot of fun with the theme so I thought I’d go all in!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen sneak peeks of our family’s Moana Halloween costumes. Little A is Moana (of course), Little J is Maui, and Little R is Pua. I love Halloween, and I frequently spend a lot of time working on Halloween costumes (like this Lightning McQueen costume I made last year). I put a lot of time and effort into these costumes, and I am SO HAPPY with how they turned out. I know Halloween is less than two weeks away, but I couldn’t not share these!

Let’s start with Moana.

Little A’s costume is the only one I didn’t completely make.

She was gifted the Moana costume from one of her grandmas for her birthday, and Little J got her the singing Moana necklace for her birthday.

I decided to make her a little flower crown that she could wear like Moana wears in the movie.

I used flowers from Michael’s and a tutorial I found similar to this one.

It was super easy and while it’s not a total DIY, I still love it!

Now we’ll go to sweet baby Pua.

We call Little R Pua almost more than his actual name, so it was easy to decide what character he would be from the movie! I searched for a baby Pua costume tutorial, and couldn’t find one, so I improvised!

And the best part is that if you don’t want to do any sewing, you don’t have to!

All you need are white baby pajamas (I used this one from Amazon), a white baby hat, gray felt, white felt, pink felt, and hot glue. First cut out some gray spots and hot glue them all over the pajamas.

Then cut out some pink triangles and some slightly bigger white triangles (for the ears) and glue them together, then glue them to the hat.

I recommend putting your hat on your baby to make sure you put them in the right place. Of course take the hat off before gluing them so you don’t burn your baby. Then glue a few more smaller gray spots onto the hat, and voila!

You have a super easy no-sew baby Pua costume! If you’re wondering why I said you don’t have to sew it, I actually made the baby hat because I didn’t want one with a little fold on it. You can find the tutorial I used for that here. I love how Pua’s costume turned out, and it was so easy!

Maui’s costume took me the longest, and it’s definitely the most detailed.

I got the skin-colored shirt and pants from Amazon (shirt here, pants here), and drew the tattoos on (yes, I know) with Tulip black fabric markers.

It took several hours, I only did the front of the shirt and the ankles, and if you decide not to draw them on, your costume will still look awesome.

For Maui’s fishhook, I mostly followed this pin. It’s made from several layers of cardboard, masking tape, white felt, a rope, and hot glue.

I’ve seen a few different tutorials on Pinterest, and you can also just buy a fishhook if making one intimidates you. I used white felt instead of cardboard (because it was what I had and seemed easier) and just stitched it on using embroidery thread.

Then I hot glued some rope around the bottom of it.

For Maui’s necklace, I cut teeth out of a white foam sheet from Michael’s (like this), hot glued some thin hemp rope around the tops, and then hot glued them in between some white and brown beads on a thin hemp rope. It was super easy, and I just tie it on my son using a bow when he wears it.

The skirt was also super easy, even if it took a while. I used different colors of green felt, purple felt, and red felt, and cut leaves out of it.

Some of them were simple leaves, and then some of them I cut into to make them look more like palm leaves. To attach them to the rope, I used thread and sewed them on in a big long line along the rope. I also drilled some holes through some seashells and tied them onto the rope. To put it on, I just use safety pins on each end and pin them so it doesn’t fall off. There’s probably a better way to do it, but that’s how I did it!

So there you have it! DIY Moana Halloween costumes. They are great family Halloween costumes, great sibling Halloween costumes, or they are even great on their own! My kids ask me to wear them every day, and I can hardly wait to show them off and wear my Te Fiti costume with them! Happy Halloween!

Hey mamas! I shared this recipe last year on my friend Christine’s blog, I Dig Pinterest, and I have been saving them ALL YEAR to share them with you guys here today! They are super easy no bake Oreo cream pie bars, and they are DELICIOUS!

And not only are they super easy and yummy, but they only take four ingredients! Woo hoo! They are the perfect dessert for when you are busy getting Halloween costumes together and carving pumpkins and don’t have a lot of time (or energy!) to do much else!

This recipe was actually adapted from one of our family’s favorite OREO cream pie recipes. We make it all the time when we have guests or when we bring food to friends. It’s always a big hit, and these bars were, too! We gobbled them right up! And who wouldn’t? A layer of OREOS, a layer of whipped cream, and a layer of OREO cream pudding. Mmmmm. Is it too early for me to make these again?

To be honest, you could probably get away with making these any time of the year, but there’s something about using Halloween OREOS that makes them even yummier!

Yield: 1 8x8 pan

No-Bake OREO Cream Pie Bars

Prep Time: 4 hours 30 minutes

Total Time: 4 hours 30 minutes

Ingredients

• 1 package Halloween OREOS
• 1 1/4 cups milk
• 2 (4 oz) boxes OREO pudding mix
• 1 tub whipped cream

Instructions

1. Crush up 12 OREOS and squish them in the bottom of an 8x8 pan. 2. Spread 1/2 container of whipped cream on top. Freeze for 10 minutes.
2. Blend together 1 cup milk and 2 boxes of OREO pudding mix. Once blended (it will be thick), gently fold in the rest of the whipped cream. Spread on top of the whipped cream layer and freeze for 4 hours.
3. Sprinkle with crushed OREOS or top each bar with a full OREO! Thaw for 10 minutes before serving.

I really do hope you get a chance to try these no bake OREO cream pie bars out, because they are DIVINE! Happy Halloween!!

Last year when I was pregnant I spent a lot of time trying to decide what I wanted to be for Halloween. I knew I wanted to incorporate my bump, but there were so many cute options! I eventually ended up choosing a bubblegum machine, and it turned out so cute! It was fast and easy to put together, and I got lots of compliments. Today I want to share the tutorial for this DIY bubblegum machine maternity costume with you guys!!

Like I said, it’s super easy, you don’t have to do any sewing, and you can put it together in an afternoon! All you need is 1 yard of red knit fabric, a white t-shirt, several sheets of different colored felt, one sheet of grey felt, one sheet of black felt, and some hot glue.

First, let’s start with the t-shirt. Put it on and kind of feel where your bump is. Take a pencil and trace around it lightly so you know where to add the bubblegum circles when you take it off. Now take it off and make sure it’s round!

Now it’s time to cut a bunch of circles. I cut one circle out of cardstock and used that as my template. Then I just cut a ton of circles out of all my different colored felts.

Next, glue them on! Start with the outline of your bump and then go from there. Overlap them slightly so there aren’t very many white spaces.

Now you have a bubblegum machine top!

Time for the skirt! Start by cutting your yard of red knit fabric into a square. Then fold it into a triangle once, twice, three times. Trim the top so there’s a little circle left, and then trim the bottom so it’s round. You’re basically making a donut. If it’s too long for you then you can trim some more off the bottom, but I wanted mine to my knees.

Now let’s make the gumball/quarter slot! Cut a rectangle out of grey felt, then a smaller one out of black felt for the opening. Then cut a 2, a 5, and a ¢ out of the black felt. You also need to cut a little propeller-like shape for the turn wheel. Glue them on!

Now you want to open up your skirt and glue the gumball/quarter slot on.

Guess what!? You’re done! So easy, no sewing involved, and you’re going to look so cute on Halloween!

In December 2015 my son watched Cars for the first time. He was hooked (and still is). About a week after he watched it, he started telling me he wanted to be Lightning McQueen for Halloween. For the next ten months he was insistent that he be Lightning McQueen. So last year for Halloween, I made him a DIY Lightning McQueen costume. Guys, it was AMAZING. I was super proud of that thing. Even more importantly, he was super proud of that thing. Seeing how excited he was to wear his Lightning costume was my favorite part of Halloween last year. He ran around shouting “Kachow!” and wore the costume all trick-or-treating and the whole time we were at our church Halloween party.

I couldn’t find a good tutorial online for how to make a costume, so I sort of just did it myself looking at my son’s Lightning McQueen diecast car. I made sure to take tons of pictures, and today, I’m going to share how I did it! If there are any mamas out there trying to figure out how the heck they’re going to build their child a Lightning McQueen costume for Halloween this year (especially with the release of the AMAZING Cars 3!), this one’s for you!

First, let’s talk about the body. The first step is to cut out the body of the car from sturdy cardboard. I used the box that my husband’s lawnmower came in. Unfortunately I don’t have pictures of that process, but I looked at pictures of Lightning and used a pencil to draw the sides first, and then once I cut those out, I was able to cut out pieces that fit in between the sides. You’ll need a front (for the mouth), a thin front (for the headlights), a front top (for the circular Rusteze logo), a front windshield, a piece for the very back, a piece for the back hood behind the opening, and then two thin pieces for the spoiler.

Next, I taped them all together using thick masking tape and duct tape. I did a nice job on the outside taping them, being careful to make the joints flat, and then on the inside I reinforced it with lots of smaller pieces.

After the body is all taped up, it’s time for red spray paint!! I had to do a few coats to get the red I wanted, but it turned out great. (Also, this is the only in-process picture I have!)

Now it’s time to add the tires I used styrofoam circles and spray-painted them black. I wish I would have used a little bigger circles because if you look at Lightning, his tires take up a little more of the body, but it was still okay. I used gorilla glue to glue them on because it’s durable!

The next thing I did was to paint on the windows, back windshield, mouth, headlights and taillights, the lines on the back of the spoiler, lightning bolts on the sides (the small silver and large yellow ones), and his eyes. I drew what I wanted in pencil first and then painted. Look at a picture of Lightning when you’re doing it so you can get the right shapes.

Next comes the logos! I found all my logos and stuff online, and I conveniently saved them all so I can share them with you! You can download them all here. Print them out, cut them out, and use mod podge with a matte finish to glue them on. That way you can do a layer under the pictures to adhere them and a layer on top to seal them on. I used my son’s diecast Lightning McQueen to figure out where all the pictures went. There are logos on the sides, the top, the spoiler, the back, and the headlights and taillights.

The last part is to put on straps so your child can wear his costume! I used thick red straps that were in the ribbon section of the fabric store, but they were more like flat, rope (just look at the pictures). To attach them, I first glued them onto the underside of the front opening (using gorilla glue again). Once they were completely dry, I had my son get in the car and then I tried to see how long I wanted them to be. Once I figured that out, I cut them to length and glued them to the underside of the back. And a quick tip, the straps kept falling off my son’s shoulders because I didn’t glue them close enough together in the back. So lesson learned (and passed on to you!).

That’s the last step! Now take a step back and admire your work! If your son is anything like mine, he’ll be thanking you for days. It was seriously the best Halloween costume I’ve ever made, and I’m sure I’ll be proud of it for years to come! Good luck making yours, mamas!

I love Halloween. And this year is finally the year that I can take advantage of being pregnant and do a cute maternity Halloween costume! I always love seeing what people come up with, and this year I am so excited to use my belly in my costume. Yes, I was pregnant in 2012 during Halloween, but I honestly don’t even remember if we did anything that year (I think it might’ve been the only year like ever that I haven’t dressed up). So this year, I am not letting this opportunity pass! I’ve done my research, I’ve found my favorites, and today, I am sharing over 60 Halloween costumes for pregnancy, along with my top 5 favorites at the bottom!

Some of these costumes are funny, some are creative, some are for couples, and some can be turned into family costumes. So hopefully, this is the only post you need to look at to find a costume for you! I think they can all be made at home, too! And if the costume you like displays a bare belly, you can easily just wear a shirt instead. Just make it work for you!

I love fall. More specifically, I love pumpkins. I love decorating pumpkins, I love pumpkin patches, I love pumpkin-flavored goodies. I just love pumpkins. So it’s no surprise that I love doing pumpkin-related crafts and activities with my kids during the fall. Last year one of our tot school themes was all about pumpkins, and Little J and I both had so much fun doing pumpkin activities.

This year, I really want to get into the pumpkin-spirit with both kids, and since having a toddler sort of limits some of the activities you can do, I searched Pinterest for the best pumpkin activities for toddlers. Now that my son is old enough to start remembering things, I am super excited to start family traditions. One family tradition I want to do is a fun spooky dinner on Halloween night! I’ve been looking for fun recipes to use for our dinner this year, and decided that I wanted to come up with my own recipe for the most important part: dessert.

A few weeks ago the Mister’s grandma and I made fresh raspberry jam using raspberries from their garden. I thought the beautiful red color of the raspberries would be perfect for our spooky dinner.

Growing up my mom would make crescents all the time, and I love baking them for my family now. I wanted to take them to the next level and make them fit into my spooky Halloween dinner!

All I did was add some raspberry jam to the unbaked dough,

roll it up,

bake it at 375 for 12 minutes,

add some candy eyeballs,

and turn the eyes red with juice from the raspberries!

They were super easy and turned out delicious! And my toddler loved that they had eyes!

I can’t wait to make them again for our spooky Halloween dinner! I’m going to dye some spaghetti noodles purple, and serve them with tomato sauce, veggies in the shape of a pumpkin, and fruit in the shape of ghosts! I can hardly wait!

Raspberry Monster Rolls

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Total Time: 17 minutes

These simple raspberry monster rolls are the perfect side or dessert for your spooky Halloween dinner! And they are so easy!

Ingredients

• 1 container original Pillsbury Crescents
• 8 Tbsp. raspberry jam
• 16 candy eyeballs

Instructions

1. Spread 1 Tbsp. at the bottom of each crescent.
2. Roll it up and bake at 375 for 12 minutes.
3. Place two candy eyes on the outside of the roll.
4. Dab the eyes with a raspberry.
5. Serve hot.

When I was little, my mom would make these adorable little lollipop ghosts every Halloween. My sister and I loved them, and when we got older, we helped her put them together.

They are such an easy, fun treat, and they are perfect for any Halloween party. And now that we have a house that kids trick-or-treat at, I might even make enough to give them out for trick-or-treaters!

Not only are these lollipop ghosts like the cutest ghosts ever, but they are incredibly simple and cheap to put together.

Start with a lollipop (my mom always used Tootsie Pops because duh, they’re the best kind of lollipops).

Take two tissues and lay them on top of each other so they make this fun little star shape.

Put your lollipop in the center and cinch at the base.

Tie with a Halloween ribbon. Orange, black, purple, or a cute patterned ribbon all work. If your kids are helping, they may need some help with this part.

Last, draw a little ghost face on with a permanent marker. Two eyes and a mouth!

And that’s all! I told you they were easy!

I just love the way they look! And seriously, they’re so fun and really stand out from the rest of the Halloween candy kids will get!
