Hey Chelsea! Thanks for this great article. First time mom here and we have an amazing sleeper but we have basically locked ourselves to the house for the last 11.5 months. My question is, do you think it’s better to start the drive at the beginning of when they would go to sleep (around 7:30PM) or if the drive is 8 hours start around 11pm-midnight? Perhaps a silly question, (first time mom) but when driving through the night is there an issue with toddlers heads hanging while they sleep? Like do they get a horrible kink in their neck like we would? Should we use something (if it exists) to keep their head back?

I just looked up the 2 hour rule, and while I think it’s great, I also don’t think it’s always possible. You can’t always fly and breaking up an 8-hour drive into 4 days would be impractical.

That being said, you could split it into two 4 hour days and spend one night in the hotel, but hotels can be expensive. If you can afford it, go for it, otherwise I’d say just do it all in one day. Bring lots of snacks and activities and new toys!

Yes, I also heard of the 2hr rule? I’m a new mom so I’m learning ALOT Lol. And my fiance and I are doing an 8 hour drive with our 1 year old who doesn’t even like to take naps in the car . Would it be better to do a 4 hour drive then hotel it ? Then the other 4 the next day? Or the whole 8? We’ve only done a 2 hour drive before and she winned the whole way just about
